2019 Travel Blog Goals – Happy New Year!

Hello 2019! Glad you could join us. Looking forward to seeing what you bring – both on the business travel side and the blogging side.

I’ve decided to use this New Years Day post to share my goals for my business travel blog here in 2019.

If you’ve been following me here at the CBoardingGroup.com, you know my niche is business travel. All things related to the life of the road warrior. From business travel tips, business travel hacks, healthy business travel and more, I intend to be the go-to resource for business travelers.

Along this journey of blogging I’ve also shared a few blogging tips that I’ve picked up along the way. And while this is a little off niche for me, I still plan to document and share what I’ve learned.

I started my business travel blog in late August of 2018. And it’s been quite the journey. Mostly fun, but also hard. It’s grown pretty well so far. Having been out of the blogging and SEO game for a bit, I was a bit rusty, but I’ve caught back on quick.

I am pretty excited about where this will go in 2019! So, without any further ado, here are my blogging themes and goals for 2019.

2019 Blog Mission & Strategy

I am big believer in strategic planning. Around this time of the year I am taking my teams through strategic planning exercises. We review our mission, strategy, values, etc. We lay out our goals for each year, identify tactical activities to support those goals and so on.

If I do that in business, it only makes sense to do this for your side hustle blog. Here’s my blog strategy and mission.

CBoardingGroup’s Mission

To provide reliable, relevant and meaningful travel tips, travel hacks, travel advice and other related resources to business travelers.

CBoardingGroup’s Strategy

Through continued optimization of this blog, the creation of new, relevant business travel content, and a sustained focus on current SEO tactics, we will grow the # of daily readers, recurring followers and overall value we provide to our business travel readers.

Blog Themes for 2019

The 3 themes that will underpin my 2019 blogging goals are as follows:

  1. Search Engine Optimization
  2. Readability
  3. Growth

2019 Blogging Goals

I’ve broken these up into different categories: Blog Content, Blog Design, Blog Traffic, and Blog Revenue. These blogging goals support the blog themes and are consistent with our blogging strategy and overall mission. In other words, it all connects together (so I stay focused!).

Blog Content

I am starting first with content, because, at the end of the day, I still believe that good content, strike that, great content, wins out. Ultimately, great content will be the best and most sustainable activity any blogger can take.

  • Blog Goal #1: Improve keyword optimization for all existing 2018 posts. Review all 2018 posts for keyword optimization. Edit as necessary.
  • Blog Goal #2: Improve readability of all existing 2018 posts. Review and edit all of my 2018 posts for readability and make edits/updates as necessary.
  • Blog Goal #3: Maintain consistent blog posting throughout the year – at least 10 posts per month, minimum.

Blog Design

While content is king, the ease in which your site can be navigated and used by your readers reinforces your message, keeps users on your site and brings them back. I’ve got several blog design related goals for 2019. I am including hosting back-end stuff, plug-ins, widgets, etc, here as well.

  • Blog Goal #4: Identify a new blog template (perhaps paid) that is most optimized for a business travel blog
  • Blog Goal #5: Improve site speed and navigation. Review all widgets and plug-ins to ensure they are helpful (not hurtful). Adjust menu options, links, categories, etc to maximize ease of navigation and user experience.
  • Blog Goal #6: Improve blog graphics and imagery. Purchase Canva, review blog graphics, logos, etc to ensure best foot forward.

Blog Traffic

Nothing happens unless they visit. Here are some blog goals related to blog traffic – both organic and social.

  • Blog Goal #7: Improve Domain Authority (DA) to >35 (was at 21 at the time of writing)
  • Blog Goal #8: Increase linking domains to >300 – currently at 102
  • Blog Goal #: Rank on first page for 10 posts, Top 3 rankings for 3 posts (Business Travel Hacks, Business Travel Tips, and one TBD)
  • Blog Goal #9: Pinterest Growth – surpass >500k monthly Pinterest viewers. >5000 Pinterest followers. Purchase Tailwind to support this goal.
  • Blog Goal #10: Twitter Growth – surpass >3000 Twitter followers
  • Blog Goal #11: Facebook Growth – surpass >500 Facebook followers
  • Blog Goal #12: Instagram Growth – surpass >5000 Instagram followers
  • Blog Goal #13: Achieve more balanced traffic referrers – specifically organic search. Currently most traffic comes from Pinterest, FB and WordPress. Currently Pinterest, FB and WP comprise  70% (collectively) of referrers with Organic Search sitting around 5%+. Want to grow organic search to 25% of traffic.

Blog Revenue

I do this blog in addition to my paying day job (which is a great one). I’ve no intent to have it replace my full time income (nor could I ever see it doing that). I sorta need the job (w/ its business travel) to even have a blog…haha…so, yeah, it stays. That said, I do have some revenue related goals for 2019.

  • Blog Goal #14: Have one month where we make greater than $500 in blog related revenue.
  • Blog Goal #15: Add a drop ship store to the blog for business travel related gear
  • Blog Goal #15: Partner with at least one brand for an influencer deal

Such a stellar listing of goals. I have to say, I’ve got many of the same goals as you. The re-editing and optimization of previous posts (for me) is bittersweet. It can be quite daunting when you get that dark red sad face when you revisit an old post. My big thing this year: consistency. Post regular, grow Instagram and Twitter and actually do something with Facebook and Pinterest this year.

Best of luck – I look forward to hearing more about your journey!
