Things to do in Nashville at night

by Jeremy B

Nashville, or Nashvegas as it’s often called, is one of the best cities to visit in the United States. With it’s mix of Southern history, Country Music and just plain ‘ole fun, it’s a perfect place for a business trip. When the work day is done, there’s plenty of things to do in Nashville at night.

Note: this article was previously published a guest post we did forour friends at TravelAfterFive.com. We’ve republished it here for our new BoardingArea.com readers (and used the Canonical URL to point to the original URL so they keep their search engine juice). Make sure to check out TravelAfterFive.com for all of their great suggestions on things to do in cities after you are done working!

As I note in my article The 7 Habits of the Highly Effective Business Traveler, the savvy business traveler always makes sure to check out the area he or she is visiting for work. And Nashville has no shortage of great things to do and see, and, of course, eat. Here are the best ideas of what to do in Nasvhille, after five, of course!

Go Bar Hoppin’ & Honky Tonkin’ on Broadway

Travel After Five - Go Bar Hoppin on Broadway in Nashville

They don’t call it Nashvegas for nothin’! Downtown Nashville’s Broadway Street is a music lover and bar hoppers paradise. If you’re looking for things to do in Nashville at night, Broadway Street is just what the doctor ordered. Bar after bar line the street all of them pumping country music out until the wee hours of the morning.

Broadway street is one of the big reasons why so many bachelor and bachelorette parties choose Nashville to celebrate the last throes of singleness. But on a weeknight you won’t find many of those but you will find great tunes, good drinks and a good time. Broadway Street is walking distance from many major downtown hotels making for easy access to some fun after five!

Make sure to visit the famous Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge which is known to have an impromptu performance by the occasional local mega star!

Grab some Hot Chicken at Hattie B’s

Hot Chicken is all the rage these days and Hattie B’s is one of the originals putting out tasty platters of hottest chicken you can handle. Located in downtown Nashville not far from Broadway street, Hattie B’s serves bone-in and boneless “hot chicken” with tasty Southern style sides like Pimento Mac N Cheese (my personal favorite!) and Red Skin Potato Salad.

Their Chicken’s “heat level” ranges from mild to “Shut the Cluck Up” which is just about right as it will knock your socks off. And don’t forget (seriously, don’t forget!) to try their banana cream pudding – a massive serving of soothing deliciousness which will help cool your burning lips.

Be prepared to stand in line for this must-eat foodie paradise as it’s always packed, but well worth the wait.

Location: 112 19th Ave S, Nashville, TN, 37203.

See a show at the Ryman

Ryman - at night

The famed Ryman Auditorium is a former tabernacle now used to host music events. It was the original location of the Grand ‘Ole Opry (which is now located elsewhere in Nasvhville) and hosts some of Country Music’s most famous stars.

The tickets may be a little steep, but the venue is historic and the shows are always good.

Drive to Downtown Franklin (especially during Christmas)

Franklin, TN is a quaint city 20-30 minutes south of Nashville. Anytime of the year, Franklin’s downtown area is an awesome place to visit, but if you get the chance to go during Christmas, take it!

Bustling with activity and beautifully decorated for Christmas, Franklin’s historic downtown area is full of old buildings, quaint shops, great bars (like 55 South) and an overall great vibe.

The annual Charles Dickins outdoor festival is a can’t miss activity and well worth the traffic that it brings.

Location: Franklin is 20-30 minutes south of Nashville on Interstate 65.

Catch some Tunes at the Bluebird Cafe

Bluebird Cafe - Travel After Five

For a more authentic and personal music experience, the Bluebird Cafe is legendary for it’s great music acts. The 90-seat club hidden in an unpretentious strip mall is where Taylor Swift was discovered. The Bluebird regularly hosts established stars and new up and comers almost every night of the week.

Located south of Nashville (and not in the downtown area) it’s hard to get a seat at this historic club, but well worth the visit!

Location: 4104 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37215
