Travel Tip Tuesday: Level up your Headphone Game Already!
Noise Pollution? Sounds like the name of an 80’s Disco Band (or maybe German Heavy Metal Band opening for the Scorpions). Hurricane rocking aside, noise pollution is a real problem for air travelers. It’s defined as: “propagation of noise with harmful impact on the activity of human or animal life.”
When traveling we hear the roar of the engines and for some of us that’s a comforting sound (yeah…you might be spending too much time on the road…just saying). For some, it’s incredibly annoying. And for all of us, we need to be concerned about potential hearing loss.
This is why the savviest travelers among us have already upped their headphone game deploying noise canceling headphone strategies like John Wick uses a shotgun…like total badasses.
Others not so much, you are a tangled mess of cords until at least 10,000 feet then your earbuds keep falling out because you lost one of the plastic protective sleeveless pulling it out of your backpack. Oh and they are not noise canceling so the soundtrack to the Titanic movie you are watching now features Celine Dion accompanied by a baby crying and the porn the guy is watching in the seat behind you. #StayClassy
You need to up your headphone game. Here’s a few simple suggestions:
Travel Tuesday Tip: Invest in quality, wireless, noise canceling headphones.
If you are a serious traveler you need to invest in some serious headphones. Skip your wife’s birthday present this year and buy yourself something nice…like a pair of Bose Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones (like the Bose QuietComfort 35). You can use them to ignore her too and stay hands free when her attorney calls you.
Travel Tuesday Tip: If you are too broke-ass to afford something fancy…deploy an interim step like I’ve done before.
Go cheaper, but still wireless and still some level of noise canceling. I’ve used the FX-Viktaria’s before and here’s a quick product review on them.
Travel Tuesday Tip: Identify and procure a backup set of corded headphones – then store them correctly.
This is a critical step. Your fancy headphones might run out of power because you forget to charge them like the knucklehead you are or they might break when that idiot in row 3C hits you in the head with his hard case carryon.
Always have a wired backup pair of headphones. And for storage purposes…ear buds are fine. If you are stupid rich then this set of just under $1K (wait…what…thousand bucks for wired headphones!?) the AUKEY Arcs Wired Headphones could be for you.
If you are normal human being, then these will be just fine: ROVKING Running / Over Ear in Ear Noise Isolating Headphones.
