Some good news never hurts and in this early entrant for the feel-good story of the day, a United Airlines pilot intervened to retrieve a fallen earbud for Christian pop star Jason Gray.
Gray shared the story via his social media channels which included a picture of the unnamed pilot. You can read his account below.
Jason suffers from a speech impediment which causes him to stutter at times. This makes for an interesting life choice given his job is literally to be in front of groups of people singing (and talking), but Gray’s story is about overcoming challenges and he’s used his own to inspire himself and others to overcome their challenges.
We’ve seen Jason Gray in concert and he’s quite good. His most popular song, Remind Me Who I Am, is a good one and he’s got many others that are catchy, compelling, and well written and often have crossover interest in other genres. Themes about self-worth, value, kindness, joy, and otherwise uplifting messages resonate with his fans.
The clever songwriter is also a genuinely good guy who connects with his fans in unique ways.
Is this the most compelling piece of travel news? No, of course not. Is it even news, probably not. But, in the face of the overwhelming deluge of bad travel news, it’s nice to see that simple acts of kindness still have meaning.
It’s unlikely the pilot knew who Jason was or that Jason even identified himself. As tough as it is for pilots, flight crew, and travel industry staff, in general, these days it is nice (and will always be) to see them do small things like this for their customers. Having traveled for many, many years I see this sort of stuff all the time. Employees simply doing the right thing.
You might think, there’s nothing to see here and maybe you are right. But, I disagree. I think there is something to see here. The little things matter.
Happy 4th of July everyone.
