A 32-year-old Southfield man has been charged with one count of kidnapping and one count of indecent exposure after attempting to sexually assault a 45-year-old woman at the Detroit Airport. The attack occurred in a portion of the airport known as the Big Blue Deck.
According to a local Detroit news site, Raymond Jackson, Jr., a 32-year-old from Southfield, Michigan, has been arrested in connection with a May 14th attack that occurred at the Detroit International Airport.
Kim Worthy, a prosecutor with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, announced the charges this week, noting, “The alleged actions of this defendant once again shows that we are not safe from sexual assault anywhere or any time. I am not trying to be an alarmist, but we must stay focused and not let incidents like this ever be relegated to the back pages again. Prevention, education, and swift action by law enforcement are key.”
Jackson stands accused of kidnapping and exposing himself to a 45-year-old woman from Ohio. The alleged incident occurred at the Detroit Airport in a parking lot known as the Big Blue Deck where Jackson is accused of taking the woman to a vacant portion of the lot and exposing himself to her before attempting to sexually assault her.
The attempted assault was one of two incidents reported in recent times, although Jackson is not charged in the second incident. The Detroit News has indicated that both incidents occurred in the Big Blue Deck area of the airport and occurred within a few days of each other. In response to those incidents, the airport has stepped up patrols in the parking structure and reminded folks to be aware of their surroundings.
Jackson is being held on $10,000 bond with a hearing set for June 15th.
