Local authorities said the car exploded as if it were full of ammunition. Later, authorities arrested a man after he set his rental car on fire near the airport. He faces arsons charges.
A San Antonio area man was arrested over the weekend after setting his rental car on fire near the San Antonio Airport. According to KSAT News, the event unfolded in the 9600 block of Airport Boulevard where the man started the fire in his rental car at a nearby gas station, before driving towards the San Antonio International Airport (SAT).
As his car neared the airport terminals the car became engulfed in flames and the man fled the car which later exploded in a fireball. The San Antonio Fire Department were dispatched to the scene an extinguished the blaze.
The San Antonio Police Department said the explosion was as if the car contained ammunition of some sort, according to reports.
Using surveillance video the man was identified and arrested just outside of Terminal B. He was charged with arson. The investigation continues.
