Guest claims the hotel told her they don’t change the sheets between guests

A miffed hotel guest claims the general manager of a Holiday Inn Express told her they rarely change the sheets between guests. The claim comes on the heels of a dispute over service dogs so is she to be believed?

In the popular Facebook group Travel Grumps a member recently shared a controversial post with some outlandish claims including that the General Manager of a Holiday Inn Express in Raton, New Mexico, does not change all of the bedding between different people’s stays.

The post, which we’ve shared below (as an image since it was not shareable), makes the bold claims before diving into a lengthy diatribe about a dispute she and her husband are having with the hotel about service dogs.

In her comment, she describes being charged $250 to have their dogs (which she claims are service dogs) stay in the hotel because, according to the hotel, they “snuck them in” the back door.

So, is it possible that the hotel isn’t changing their bedding between stays? Changing “all” of their bedding between stays? And if so, what does “all” mean? Does it mean they are changing the sheets but not the comforter / duvet?

It’s unlikely, but not improbable. Like probably just about everyone reading this post who regularly stays in hotels I’ve had the unpleasant experience (more than once!) of peeling back a hotel bedspread to find dirty nasty sheets. Was it part of a “policy” to save money or just a lazy maid? Or just an oversight, perhaps? Hard to say.

Is it this Holiday Inn Express in Raton, NM’s policy to not change all the bedding? We find that hard to believe. Especially when reading IHG’s Clean Promise Guarantee.

We’ve reached out to the Raton, NM Holiday Inn Expres for comment.

Update (10/17): the GM of the hotel reached out. We’ve published their comment here.

I don’t believe her a bit, she either misunderstood the manager or making things up, I stay at Hilton express all the time and they always change beddings including duvet covers I’ve seen it many times , this lady is a Karen nothing more nothing less , next time she should stay under a bridge where she belongs

HONORABLE RETIRED MILITARY VETERANS… so it would be only professional and politically correct to solve their issues.

It is professional for a hotel to try to resolve matters for any guest. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

As a German I don´t understand that military thing… They worked for the military? Exactly that’s what they got payed for and nobody forced them to join the military. If one gets hurt during a war… sad, but come on, war is war, what do they expect if fighting is part of their job. Nobody told them they would be selling coffee. There is zero reason to treat them different than any other person.

Even if the hotel would not change the sheets, it is doubtful that the GM would admit it to a guest.
