The meteoric rise of Dogecoin in recent days has brought millions more eyes on this fun, but very real cryptocurrency. But only one airline will let you buy an airline ticket with Dogecoin.
Dogecoin has experienced dizzying highs in recent days as the cryptocurrency with a massive following has surged in part due to its popularity, ease of use and affordability. The recent surge may have also been fueled by the public support of the coin from celebrities like Elon Musk and Mark Cuban who are big believers in the coin.
In fact, Mark Cuban recently put his support in play by allowing Dogecoin holders to buy items from his Dallas Mavericks store using the crypto.
Elon Musk recently made crypto news when his EV firm started accepting Bitcoin when purchasing a Tesla and Musk has long been a very vocal supporter of Dogecoin (no word yet on when you can buy a Tesla with Dogecoin).
Dogecoin, for those unfamiliar with the crypto, was initially started as a joke coin in the early days of the crypto boom. The coin is often referred to as the meme coin and while it may have been started as a joke it is a very real coin, with very real use cases and a rapid following. The friendly community of Dogecoin owners makes owning the coin a lot of fun (seeing your Robinhood account add $5k in a day makes owning the coin fun too…lol).
Buy an airline ticket with Dogecoin
The only airline that currently allows travelers to buy their airline tickets with Dogecoin is Latvian airline airBaltic.
The small eastern European airline serves mostly European destinations and has been a long-time supporter of the cryptocurrency world. In fact, the airline started accepting Bitcoin for travel in 2014.
Several years ago we shared how to use Bitcoin for travel with our readers. Since then, crypto’s use for travel hasn’t moved nearly as much as maybe it should have. Some of that may have to do with the pandemic which dented the travel industry in ways we’ve never seen.
Make no mistake though, crypto is here to stay and the silly, fun and ease to use Dogecoin with it.
