Struggling car rental company Hertz is now selling big chunks of its rental car inventory for below market value prices. Hertz which recently filed for bankruptcy protection, has been hit especially hard by the travel slowdown and has been trying to move its large and costly rental car fleet off the books by offering deep discounts to buyers.

Industry travel organizations are lobbying Congress to pass new legislation which would protect companies from liabilities associated with employees who contract COVID-19 on business travel.

Hotel operations software provider Optii Solutions released new data highlighting the additional costs hotels adhering to new hotel cleaning guidelines will likely bear. These costs are estimated at an additional $130k per year, per hotel and add an extra 3 minutes cleaning time per room.

The travel industry has been gutted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and airlines in particular are carrying the worst of the burden. In response to this existential crisis many are begging their employees to leave and threatening them if they don’t.

We now know who the next domino to fall in the car rental industry is. Advantage Rent A Car officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today becoming the second major car rental company behind Hertz to seek such protection.

In a new pre-solicitation announcement, the TSA offered a glimpse into a potential future airport security process. One that will have some people cheering and others cringing: a grocery store styled security process where passengers would self screen.

Delta is now providing complimentary customer care kits for passengers. Passengers who’ve forgotten their face mask or who would may need some hand sanitizer, can request a free safety kit from a gate agent.
