A schoolteacher and her husband were arrested after being told they were too drunk to travel. They didn’t take too kindly to the news and things turned violent. The teacher kicked a local police officer in the face before being arrested.
Log another entry into the book of travelers behaving badly. This entry features a couple traveling out of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) where things turned violent after the couple became too inebriated to travel.
33-year-old Amanda Rojas and her 42-year-old husband Jose Rojas-Macias were arrested last Friday after assaulting airport police who’d asked them to leave a secure area of the airport. Rojas and Rojas-Macias were on their way to Los Angeles when it became clear they were extremely drunk.
An American Airlines gate agency notified the couple they were no longer able to travel to Los Angeles after which point Rojas, a local teacher, got angry, pushing into the plexiglass dividers and knocking a radio out of the gate agent’s hands. According to a local Fox 32 report, police responded to the gate area and found the irate couple in the midst of the dispute.
As officers attempted to arrest the pair, the woman, Rojas, kicked one of the officers in the face, hurting his jaw and the man, Rojas-Macias, struck another officer in the chest with his elbow and kicked the same officer his traveling companion did as well.
Ultimately, the pair was taken into custody and later released after posting bail. The couple faces serious charges including aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting arrest, and criminal trespass.
This is not Rojas’ first violent brush with the law. According to the same Fox 32 report, the teacher plead guilty to punching a woman in the head in 2014. Her husband also has two prior incidents involving violence dating back to 2010 and 2012 – both involved resisting arrest.
