Airport security screeners have a tough and important job and one Boston crew recently did their job very well when they find an extremely tiny firearm in one passenger’s luggage.
Transportation Security Agency (TSA) agents found a .22 caliber firearm the size of a pen this weekend at Boston’s Logan International Airport. A picture of the firearm was posted to the New England Twitter account for the TSA and the weapon is shockingly small – no larger than a pen.
According to Boston.com, the weapon wasn’t loaded and was in possession of a traveler heading to Portland. The single-shot weapon could have easily been missed given its size and relative similarity to a pen.
Firearms, of course, are not allowed in carry-on luggage and must be checked, following specific procedures. In this case, the traveler was apparently allowed to continue his or her trip after being interviewed by local law enforcement.
The weapon is reportedly the 17th firearm found at the Boston Logan International Airport this year.
