Finally, some good travel news. One woofer decided that being left at home while mom and dad went on their big trip simply wasn’t acceptable! The cute pupper surreptitiously stuffed himself into their luggage and stowed away for the journey. Imagine their surprise when a friendly Southwest Airlines employee showed them their freeloader.
In a world where most travel stories are about people freaking out on planes, or thumping on flight attendants, or not wearing their masks, it’s refreshing to find something cute and fun and that’s the story we are bringing our readers today.
Back in October of this year, Texas residents Jared and Christy Owens were traveling to Las Vegas for a well-earned vacation. To their great surprise, Southwest Airlines told them their luggage was overweight. Hmm…that doesn’t make sense, they said.
Indeed, when they opened it, they found their pet chihuahua, Icky, tucked away for the long journey inside one of their cowboy boots. Pictures below:
According to reporting by Fox13, Jared noted that, “…one of the Southwest Airlines employees helped them open the bag and then, BOOM, there’s our Icky coming out of one of my boots I packed. We were dumbfounded and flat shocked and embarrassed, to be honest. She loves to burrow in our laundry baskets, closet, blankets, wherever she can get nice, warm and comfy, and on that day, I guess she chose our suitcase we had left open with clothes in it for hours.”
Despite Icky’s tenacity, his attempts at evading airfare were rebuffed after the Owen’s called some friends to come and get the clever little travel hacker. And honestly, he didn’t even have his mask with him so they both probably dodged a bullet there. <snark>
And good thing they did. Traveling inside of a suitcase in the hold of the plane may have resulted in a poor outcome for little Icky.
Glad they found ya, and better luck next time, buddy!

How could they miss their dog and making sure it was well cared for before their trip? Even if someone was going to be home to watch him, wouldn’t they have wanted to say bye to him before leaving for the airport? If this was deliberate and they acted surprised that’s awful.
If they just didn’t care to find him to say bye before going away on vacation no wonder the little pup has separation anxiety. Worse yet, if they just planned to leave him home alone….something about their cavalier attitude seems off
