A picture is circulating social media of the first IndiGo flights post COVID-19 lock down. The image is shocking, in a way, in that it depicts a plane full of passengers wearing airline-issued face shields over the top of face masks.
Most major airlines now require a face covering or mask of some sort and thus far a traditional face mask has been sufficient. Here at the CBoardingGroup we’ve been digging into airline face mask policies, including Delta, Southwest, Spirit and United (more to come) as well as helping readers figure out where to buy a face mask for travel. But, Indian airliner IndiGo has upped the ante here.
Twitter user @Desimojito posted the stunning image (below) although it’s unclear if he is/was a passenger on the flight.
Apparently this weekend was some of the first days of travel reopening back up for the airline as the country starts to restart passenger travel:
Does IndiGo require a full face shield for air travel? Thus far, we’ve not been able to determine if this is a hard and fast requirement, although we are continuing to review IndiGo’s policies. In fact, there appears to be a fair amount of overall confusion regarding travel restrictions in the Indian air market (which you can read about here – and there’s no mention of face shields…although masks are required). India, which has been under near total lock down since March has started to ease it’s restrictions. It was reported that Indian crews will be required to wear full PPE gear in a post lock down world.
One thing’s for sure…having to travel anywhere with both a face mask and face shield sounds absolutely terrible. It looks incredibly uncomfortable. Never mind the poor flight crew decked out in full PPE. Is this what travel has come to?
