In the wake of rising COVID cases, CA, OR and WA issue joint travel advisory urging 14 day quarantine when visiting these states

California, Oregon and Washington issued a new joint travel advisory urging travelers to these states to self quarantine for at least 14 days after arrival. The guidance also highlights the need to avoid essential travel.

In the wake of rising COVID cases across the country and the impending holidays many states are tightening their precautionary measures in an attempt to blunt the rising infections. Notably, California recently joined Texas in the ranks of states with over 1 million infections.

The new guidance does not require a 14 day quarantine but strongly encourages it.

Both Oregon and Washington have seen dramatic increases in COVID infections as well. CBS reported that Oregon’s governor, Kate Brown had this statement:

“As COVID-19 cases continue to increase across the country, Governor Kate Brown, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Washington Governor Jay Inslee issued travel advisories today urging visitors entering their states or returning home from travel outside these states to self-quarantine to slow the spread of the virus. The travel advisories urge against non-essential out-of-state travel, ask people to self-quarantine for 14 days after arriving from another state or country, and encourage residents to stay local.“

California’s New Travel Advisory

California’s new travel advisory, issued on November 13, notes the following:

1. “Persons arriving in California from other states or countries, including returning California residents, should practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival. These persons should limit their interactions to their immediate household. This recommendation does not apply to individuals who cross state or country borders for essential travel. [2]
2. Californians are encouraged to stay home or in their region and avoid non-essential travel to other states or countries. Avoiding travel can reduce the risk of virus transmission and bringing the virus back to California.”
