One liberal US Senator along with three other Democrat members of Congress published a letter urging the Centers for Disease Control and the Federal Aviation Administration to make vaccines mandatory for domestic travel, or proof of a negative test.
On Monday, four members of the United States Congress, including one US Senator, sent a letter urging the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to institute a domestic vaccine mandate for domestic travel or require a negative COVID-19 test.
The letter, which was published on Twitter, highlights the fact that travel has more or less returned to pre-pandemic levels, however COVID-19 variants, notably the omicron variant, continue to pose a significant health threat – at least in their opinion.
Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Representatives Eric Swalwell (D-CA), Ritchie Torres (D-NY), and Donald Beyer (D-VA) jointly wrote and submitted the formal letter that was addressed to the heads of the CDC and FAA.
Thus far, a domestic vaccine mandate or proof via negative test have not been required for domestic US travel. Such requirements are in place, however, for some instances of international travel and their letter highlights this by mentioning the steps that several airlines have taken to facilitate this process with programs like the FlyReady or VerifFly.
Face masks, however, continue to be required of all travelers and continue to be a major source of consternation for many travelers. Face mask-related incidents have been a significant part of many of the in-flight air rage incidents that have been persistent for much of the pandemic.
The letter was met with the expected mix of viewpoints including healthy support and opposition for such a mandate. Unsurprisingly, Twitter – which never forgets, – reminded us of when Senator Feinstein flouted the face mask rules herself with this image.
Other responses included opinions for and against the approach posited by the members of congress including these, with, at first glance, many taking positions against such a mandate.

The odds of this happening are as close to zero as you can get, but Feinstein is so gone in the head she probably doesn’t realize it.
