Self-described Trump supporter Brandon Straka was removed from an American Airlines flight yesterday after refusing to don a face mask. The incident, which occurred prior to takeoff, was tweeted about by Straka who also posted a video of a portion of the incident.
Airlines have recently toughened their face mask policies including some threatening to remove passengers from flights, and even, as United now does, add non-compliant passengers to the airline’s no-fly list. In fact, most major airlines now require face coverings to be worn on flights, during the boarding and deplaning processes and around the gate area.
Enforcement of these policies has been an area of concern as early on airlines struggled with how serious to enforce their policies. Recently, American Airlines bolstered the enforcement of its face mask policy and Brandon Straka appears to have been the first passenger to be removed for non-compliance.
Straka captured his video below on periscope:
Allegedly Straka was on his was to a Trump rally, having recently tweeted about securing tickets to an upcoming rally in Tulsa, OK. Straka had boarded AA flight 1263, DFW bound flight from NY’s LGA airport
Apparently a NY Times reporter happened to be on the flight and captured some of the incident on board in this tweeted video:
He later offered an alternative view of the situation, suggesting that some of this was fabricated or perhaps even a publicity stunt:
On his website WalkAway, Straka describes himself a former liberal turned conservative. The site offers this indictment of the Democratic party:
” The Democratic Party of today has adopted a destructive belief system, happily and without skepticism, separating people into groups based on identity and organizing them into camps of victims and oppressors. If you are a person of color, an LGBT person, a woman, or an American immigrant; the Democratic Party wants you to know that you are a victim and destined to stay that way.”
He has made appearances on Fox News and Newsmax and has nearly 400k Twitter followers.
