An unmasked black man assaulted a flight attendant and federal air marshall before winding up in handcuffs, after taking the opportunity to discuss his enslavement by the white man mid-flight while also being combative. The flight was forced to make an emergency landing to address the situation before continuing to its final destination.
Air Marshall: “If you stand up again you are going to spend the rest of this flight in handcuffs.”
Disgruntled passenger: <immediately stands up>
Spends the rest of the flight in handcuffs.
Such was the scene that played out on a recent Los Angeles bound Delta flight that had originated in Washington, DC. According to one person who shared a video of the encounter, the man had been yelling about Black Lives Matter and being enslaved by the White Man.
The video, below, picks up in the final stages of the incident where a federal air marshal has intervened. The passenger refuses to cooperate and winds up in handcuffs. The LA-bound flight diverts to Oklahoma City where the man is remanded into custody.
A statement released by Delta Airlines, and reported by CBS2, said this, “Delta applauds the quick action and professionalism of the crew and federal air marshals on Delta flight 342 from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles, which diverted to Oklahoma City after a customer became unruly and was removed from the flight by local law enforcement,†the airline said in a statement. “We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
The passenger, 35-year-old Arial Pennington, a DC-area resident, was taken into custody without further incident before the flight continued on to its final destination in Los Angeles.
