New Orleans is a foodie paradise with no shortage of mouth watering places to eat breakfast. But there is one place that is a must-visit destination for the Best Breakfast in New New Orleans: Ruby Slipper Cafe. This delectable destination delights visitors with some of the tastiest breakfast food you can find anywhere and the ambiance is amazing!
Best Breakfast in New Orleans
As someone who regularly travels for work I traverse the country almost every week. In most parts of the country there is always some incredible place to eat. New Orleans, however, has perhaps cornered the market on good eats.
The interesting challenge to finding the best breakfast in a place like New Orleans is that visitors have so many really solid amazing places to choose from. There are literally dozens of truly incredible places to eat breakfast in New Orleans.
Fortunately, I’ve tried most of them over the course of my many visits to New Orleans for work and I’ve come to the conclusion that there simply is NOT a better breakfast in New Orleans than the Ruby Slipper Cafe.
Ruby Slipper Cafe (without a doubt the best breakfast in New Orleans)
The best breakfast in New Orleans can be found at the Ruby Slipper Cafe. In 2008, following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina the Ruby Slipper Cafe was founded by husband and wife team Erich and Jennifer. This mid-city restaurant was intended to become a gathering place for
The single greatest breakfast I’ve ever eaten in my life: Bananas Foster Pain Perdu at Ruby Slipper Cafe
There is not even one ounce of exaggeration when I say that the Bananas Foster French Toast at the Ruby Slipper Cafe is the greatest breakfast I’ve ever had in my entire life. This delectable and sumptious meal is a MUST HAVE on any visit to the Ruby Slipper.
Featuring french bread cooked up french toast style with raisins and fresh bananas soaked in a sweet rum sauce, the Bananas Foster Pain Perdu is a popular choice among visitors. This dish is served with two slices of Applewood bacon and the entire dish is laying in a thin lake of buttery caramel sauce.
This meal is so good that after the first time I ate there (on a Bleisure trip with my wife) we came back the second day and I ordered it again.
The use of french bread in the dish is probably what makes this pop. Often with french toast the bread gets too soggy when syrup or sauce is applied. That’s not the case here and the bread remains spongy and chewy throughout the entire meal. The rum soaked bananas are the a lovely touch and offer the right balance against the dish being too sweet.
This dish is so good that on a recent business trip to NOLA I got up early and snuck out to scarf down a few bites before my planned breakfast with my colleagues at Cafe Dumonde. I ate twice that morning but I didn’t care. It was so worth it.
Other great menu items
The Ruby Slipper features a full breakfast and lunch menu and have a solid omelette section along with a delicious Croque Madam. They describe it this way:
“French Truck Coffee-glazed ham, swiss cheese & brioche bread dipped in an egg custard and grilled, topped
with cream sauce & fried egg.“
Ambiance
The staff were incredibly friendly each time I’ve visited and the restaurants are usually pretty full (some even with lines out the door). Most locations feature an authentic, weathered New Orleans decor with plain tables and bright colors.
Hours
The Ruby Slipper is open seven days a week from 7:00 to 2:00 PM M-F and 7:00 – 3:00 on the weekends.
