A Chicago-bound flight from Indianapolis was forced to abort its takeoff and evacuate its crew and passengers on the tarmac after smelling an unusual odor during the takeoff sequence.

Republic Airways Flight 4837 departed the Indianapolis International Airport earlier this morning but never left the ground after being forced to abort its takeoff.

According to an MSN news report, an odor was detected during the takeoff sequence which was then stopped. All of the 67 passengers and 4 crew members were then safely evacuated on the airport’s tarmac.

Passengers deplaned the Embraer 175 twin-engine jet using inflatable slides.

According to a statement in the MSN news report, Republic Airways said that the flight was stopped after an odor was reported inside the cabin. “All customers and crew members were safely evacuated. We are working with our partner to get customers to their destination as quickly as possible.”
