In a bit of strange news, a Bluebird Aviation cargo plane reportedly crashed in Somalia and burst into flames after swerving to avoid a donkey crossing the runway.
The Kenyan plane, owned by Bluebird Aviation, was a Dash 8 cargo plane and, according to local media reports, noticed a donkey crossing the runway on approach to the Beledweyne-Ugas Khalif Airport in Somalia. The pilot swerved to avoid hitting the animal and crashed into some mounds of dirt adjacent to the runway.
The 3 people on board escaped without serious injuries, but the plane burst into flames.
The airline’s general manager, Hussein Mohamed, noted: “The plane was from Djibouti earlier this morning and upon landing a donkey crossed the runway, they hit the donkey and swerved off to a trench on the side of the runway but the crew are perfectly okay.“
