Fracas with Hotel Guest: “Let me explain to you!”

In a series of videos posted to TikTok, a hotel guest gets into a fracas with the front desk employee over an additional key for a guest who is not on the reservation.

A pair of hotel guests at an IHG property shared a series of videos to TikTok which have since gone viral. While the cause of the initial dispute is somewhat unclear, we can piece together that it had something to do with an additional guest who was not on the reservation trying to get a key for the room.

Things devolved from that point in lots of shouting from both parties. At one point the hotel clerk is basically just repeating back to the guest what they’ve said to him (like when your little brother annoying plays the copycat game with you when you are 11 years old).

At one point the irate guest demands the clerk listen to them…repeating the demand something like 20 times as the two people talk over each other. Later, they declare, “I’ll have that job!” Indicating they plan on getting this clerk fired. In the TikTok comments, the original poster notes that the clerk did lose his job – although we have no confirmation of this.

Travel Freakouts, which have largely been the domain of airports and airplanes have also made their way into the hotel business with many guests and staff getting into disputes about mask-wearing or other issues. The pandemic has raised the temperature in the country and across the world creating the perfect environment for what might ordinarily be smaller issues to go nuclear at the drop of the hat.
