A new hotel under the hip Moxy Hotel brand opened in Downtown Phoenix in the historic 1924 Luhrs Building.
The new hotel, which opened in December, is the result of a collaboration between the PEG Companies and A.G. Hill Partners who combined forces to purchase the historic Luhrs Building in 2019. According to KSTAR News, the building was originally built in 1924
The history property was built in 1924 and previously housed a US Treasury Office when it originally opened, as well as Standard Oil offices and the Arizona Dinner Club. Once the tallest building in Arizona, the Beaux-Arts style building mixes French Neoclassicism style with Baroque and Rennaissance features.
The newly renovated property is home to 164 hotel rooms as well as a law office on the top of the building. While the interior was completely renovated the exterior of the building was maintained including its distinctive facade.
The Moxy Hotel brand, which operates as part of the Marriott family of hotels, generally targets a younger, hipper crowd and like all Moxy hotels features a combined bar / front desk check-in along with pulsating music and distinctive design elements and promises to be a popular hotel in the bustling downtown Phoenix area.
