Two passengers survived the Pakistan International Airlines crash from Friday and one of them speaks out, giving a chilling account of the crash. “I could hear screams from all directions. Kids and adults. All I could see was fire. I couldn’t see any people – just hear their screams,” says Muhammad Zubair, one of two survivors.
Muhammad Zubair was one of two survivors from the Pakistani International Airlines (PIA) crash on Friday May 22, which killed 97 people including passengers and crew. In a phone interview shared on Shahzeb Khanzada’s show on Geo News network, Zubair shared the horrific story.
“I could hear screams from all directions. Kids and adults. All I could see was fire. I couldn’t see any people – just hear their screams,” Zubair recounted.
Zubair noted that after while the plane was on fire, he unbuckled his seatbelt and made his towards some light, apparently a way out of the wreckage. He then proceeded to jump around 10 feet from the plane to ground. Jubair’s injuries were mostly burns and he is reportedly in good condition in a Pakistani hospital.
Zubair wasn’t the only one to make it out alive, with Bank of Punjab CEO Zafar Masud who has thus far been silent about the ordeal but is also in reportedly good condition.
Here’s the full interview from Muhammad Zubair:
The plane, which had just left Lahore airport, crashed on an apparent second attempt at landing after the plane lost two engines shortly after takeoff. After nearly landing on the first go around the plane proceeded to loop around one more after finally crashing. So far, no injuries or deaths beyond those aboard the doomed flight have been reported.
CNN has reported that a US citizen was aboard the flight, although no word yet as to the American’s name.
