Last Thursday, San Antonio councilman Roberto Treviño made a motion to ban Chick-fil-A from the San Antonio (SAT) airport.
“No chicken for you!” He declared while violently kicking back a vegan smoothie (with no straw, of course)! (It really didn’t go down that way…but that’s how I imagined it in my head).
In all seriousness, Trevino and the San Antonio City Council did effectively ban Chick-fil-A from the airport.
Chick-fil-A, a Georgia based company that closes its restaurants on Sunday, is known for taking an often conservative stance on many social issues including LGBTQ issues. For example, a recent Vox report noted that Chick-fil-A has donated to several anti-LGBTQ charities over the year.
In an article published by ABCNews4 in San Antonio, Trevino is quoted as saying:
“With this decision, the City Council reaffirmed the work our city has done to become a champion of equality and inclusion,” Treviño said. “San Antonio is a city full of compassion, and we do not have room in our public facilities for a business with a legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior.”
For its part, a Chick-fil-A spokesperson noted:
“This is the first we’ve heard of this. It’s disappointing,” Chick-fil-A said in a statement. “We would have liked to have had a dialogue with the city council before this decision was made. We agree with Councilmember Treviño that everyone is and should feel welcome at Chick-fil-A. We plan to reach out to the city council to gain a better understanding of this decision.”
So…as it stands now, no tasty chicken for SAT passengers!

SAT denied Chik Fil A becasue of a donation to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Imagine the outrage that would occur if a governmental entity banned another business for making a donation to the Muslim Athletes of America or a Jewish charity. the uproar from the main stream media would be deafening.
A big boo to Roberto Treviño who should be pariodied by someone wearing a chicken suit and doing a chicken dance in the next King William Fair Parade. No compassion for El Pollo Politico.
