Football fans took a pre-flight discussion about the impending Super Bowl too far and the result was fisticuffs and handcuffs when a fracas broke out on a Frontier Airlines flight from Cleveland.
On February 9th, a discussion about the upcoming Super Bowl turned ugly when the passengers’ conversation turned heated. When the gate agent for Frontier Airlines flight from Cleveland, destined for Phoenix, attempted to remove the parties, a fight broke out.
According to a Fox News report two inebriated passengers engaged in a heated discussion about the upcoming Super Bowl which features the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams. At one point one of the parties put the other in a chokehold, before eventually being convinced by other passengers to let the man free.
As one of the parties was being escorted off the plane he is heard saying, “I was a Bengals fan, I was the only Bengals fan. I’m not a bad person, bro, I drank a little too much, and one guy back there had a problem that I was drinking too much.“
Alcohol indeed did play a role in the situation as it would seem that booze was purchased in the gate area, some of which was consumed. However, apparently more was brought on board and consumed. The consumption of alcohol not served by the airline is a big no-no.
At least one arrest was made. A Frontier Airlines spokesperson released the following statement in the wake of the event:
“As Flight 2415 scheduled from Cleveland to Phoenix on February 9 was at the gate prior to takeoff, a passenger was behaving disruptively and was asked to exit the aircraft by a gate agent. The passenger became increasingly aggressive, physically assaulting the gate agent. The passenger was subsequently arrested by local enforcement and has been permanently placed on our Prevent Departure list”Frontier Airlines Official Statement
