Working From Home Self Care Tips
I have been working from home for a while now so I know all about that feeling of being stuck working where I live. Luckily, I’ve found a few self-care activities that help make my home/work balance easier on me and my family.
To help make working from home easier for you, try indulging in these 12 self-care activities that are simple to incorporate and provide a nice break within your workday.
Stop checking your email 24/7
One struggle with working from home is separating yourself from your work when it’s time to put things away. Incessantly checking your email is a deceptive trap folks working from home can easily fall into. Be careful!
Do yourself and your family a favor by logging out of your email when you aren’t clocked in for work hours. By setting limits on how frequently you check your email will help take you out of a working state of mind and allow you time to enjoy being home while off the clock.
Stretch (just for a few minutes)
You don’t need to yoga (although that’s good too), but give your body a nice stretch every day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Working from home can sometimes be claustrophobic since you have no separation from your personal life and your working life.
Your body can start to feel cramped in your workspace and start to conform to life inside. To combat this, simply stretch every few hours to keep those muscles warmed up and to give your body a change in pace.
Step outside
Simply stepping outside, whether that be your front yard, backyard, neighborhood, or a nearby park can a refreshing self-care activity that allows you access to fresh air and a change of scenery. Just because you are working from home doesn’t mean that you have to completely ignore the outdoors. If you want to take things a step further, grab your laptop, and do some work outside.

Quick declutter
Self-care activities don’t need to always be about pampering your body. Sometimes, the most helpful working from self care tips is taking a few minutes to declutter the spaces around you. For example, is your desk messy and cluttered with paperwork?
Take some time to clear it off. Does your home office have clutter piling up on the floors and in your drawers? Dedicate a couple of minutes to start decluttering. Working in a clean environment will help your mind stay sharp and focused, which can only make working from home easier.
Listen to an audiobook
An audiobook is a great way to keep the mind entertained when you’re working from home. Even though you have to be at home and working on projects or emails doesn’t mean your mind can’t be off adventuring with the wonderful stories found in books.
The best part is that there are so many options with audiobooks that you can listen to anything from comedies to self-help to drama to fantasy, and more. My go-to source for audiobooks is through Audible because they have a great option to get 2 free audiobooks when you sign up.
Drink coffee or tea
Sometimes a self-care activity can be as simple as brewing a cup of coffee or steeping some tea. Coffee and tea are known to have relaxing agents in them that cause energy and focus.
When you’re working from home, don’t forget to take a few moments to make a nice hot cup of coffee or tea. You can take things a step further and buy different flavors and mixes so that you are always changing it up and keeping your taste buds surprised.
Open the blinds
This is a simple one. Don’t sit in darkness all day every day. Even if you don’t actually leave your house don’t hide from the sun all day! Instead, open up the blinds and let the sun in. It will help to boost your mood and give you a change of scenery during your workday.
Light candles or get a diffuser
Candles and oil diffusers are calming agents that help to steady the mind and set a certain mood. It can be extremely soothing to have a sweet-scented aroma around you during your work-day and it’s an affordable way to indulge in self-care.
Eat a snack
Preferable a healthy snack, but a snack nonetheless. Snacking during your workday helps to keep your energy up and if you schedule your snack time, it gives you something to look forward to. But be careful not to replace meals with snacks!
Make breakfast
There’s a reason they say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. According to studies, breakfast helps with your memory, concentration, and it helps to put you in a good mood. By making breakfast a daily self-care activity, you are ensuring your day gets off to a good start.
Go for a drive
Working from home can sometimes feel lonely and cooped up. When this feeling starts to creep in, drop everything and go for a drive. You don’t even have to drive far, but make your drive enjoyable. Let down the windows, put some music on, and let your brain relax for a few moments.
Order dinner
By the end of the at-home workday, sometimes the last thing on your mind is cooking dinner for you and the family. Once in a while, indulge in ordering dinner to be delivered to your home.
This working from self-care tip is one that the whole family enjoys and is delicious and relaxing. Also, if you start the day knowing you’re going to order your favorite food for dinner, it gives you something to look forward to.
