24-year-old Victoria O’Brian was left stranded at the John F Kennedy (JFK) International Airport this weekend when her $6,000 motorized wheelchair was stolen after her American Airlines flight into the busy airport.
Accfording to a local news report, O’Brian believes another passenger on the plane took the wheelchair. Apparently, after O’Brien was escorted off the plane she didn’t see her wheelchair on the jetbridge. The flight attendant suggested it might be at baggage claim so, using the airport’s wheelchair, she was assisted in making her towards the American Airlines baggage claim. However, after a 3-hour wait, her wheelchair never arrived and American Airlines has no idea where it is.
The family intends to file a police report over the matter, expressing outrage over American Airlines’ handling of the matter. The aforementioned news report shared a quote from O’Brien, “A wheelchair is not just luggage. You can’t get it at CVS.”
Reportedly, it will take at least 2 months to get a new wheelchair and at least 30 days for American Airlines to investigate the matter. Watch the entire interview here:
