Some of the victims were as young as 2 and 4 years old according to authorities who arrested a man transiting the Boston Logan International Airport on a flight bound for Brazil. He now faces 20 years in prison if convicted.
Thiago da Silva Pinheiro, a 42-year-old man from Cincinnati, Ohio was charged with one count of possession of child pornography after 2,800 images and videos depicting minors. Pinheiro was making a connecting flight at the Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) from Ontario Canada and bound for Brazil when he was arrested.
Authorities found the stash of illegal material on his tablet and took him into custody immediately according to U.S. Attorney Rachael Collins.
If convicted, the sentence for his charges carries a prison term of 20 years, with at least 5 years required to be served, and the possibility of a lifetime of supervised release. It also includes a fine of up to $250,000.
Collins has been the United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts since January 2022, after being nominated by President Biden, and has a history of prosecuting sexual predators.
