“I get to my row and there is a man in my seat with his hoodie over his eyes pretending to be asleep,” says the woman in a now-viral TikTok video. What would you do?
TikTokker Chelsea (@chelseazeferina) recently shared a video where she recalls an unusual flight experience. In the video, Chelsea opines about a redeye flight from San Francisco to New York. In a savvy move on her part, she booked a window seat so she could catch some sleep on the overnight flight.
However, when Chelsea arrived at her row she found her seat occupied by another passenger. And the man was asleep – or at least pretending to be asleep. According to her video, he had pulled his hoody down over his eyes and was feigning a deep sleep.
Ever the travel pro, Chelsea wasn’t buying what he was selling and tapped the man on the shoulder and dropped a truth bomb on him. His reply was pretty lame: “Do you mind if I sit here? I was supposed to be in the middle seat but I don’t want to sit there.”
Uh…no. That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.
There is no one (ok, few people anyway) who are giving up a window or aisle seat for a middle seat on a 6-hour overnight redeye flight. Not. Gonna. Happen.
He moved without incident but then proceeded to pout about it the whole flight.
According to Chelsea, “He gets all huffy puffy and moves his stuff to the middle seat. He’s mad the entire flight.”

Entitled little twits on planes.
If they do fake sleep tell them you will have the FA call for medical help to have them removed. Since they are not responding to you they would not respond to a FA in an emergency. see how fast they move.
I had a priest do that to me once. He was in full god uniform. I let him win that one just in case – you know!
1994 = That happened to me once and I was a relatively new flyer. I thought maybe they assigned two people to the same seat and asked the FA. She started reading off, “Seat X is Smith, Seat Y is Jones, Seat Z is Williams.” The guy was a bit huffy and sat in the middle seat. I think he was more upset that he didn’t get away with it vs. having to sit in the middle seat.
2013 = First time flying SWA after they merged with AirTran. We are lining up by number. I was B46 and asked the guy what his number was. He said, “Does it really make that big of a difference.” I thought, “Ok. So he’s like 48 or 49 I’m not going to make a big deal.” He and his party (like 4-6 people) weaseled their way up to the front of B31-60. The GA didn’t bother to enforce the rules. Screw me once — your fault. Screw me twice — my fault. I have never had that problem again, but am ready for it next time.
