After consuming 10 small bottles of vodka during his flight, this Oscar-nominated deaf (and drunk) actor got into a huge argument with his wife that saw the American Airlines flight crew forced to write notes to the actor letting him know he’d be arrested on landing.
BAFTA and SAG Award-winning and Oscar-nominated actor Troy Kotsur found himself three sheets to the wind on a Los Angeles-bound flight that originated in London after consuming 10 bottles of vodka on the trip. The actor and his wife, 50-year-old Deanne Bray, engaged in a heated argument during the lengthy American Airlines flight.
Kotsur, who has recently risen to fame after a strong performance in the popular Apple TV movie CODA, was not traveling with his translator after Kotsur had apparently missed a flight, according to one report.
During the altercation, the flight crew was unable to communicate with Kotsur and resorted to writing handwritten notes to Kotsur informing him he’d be arrested on landing.
Fellow passengers on the flight told the Sun that Kotsur was gesticulating wildly in sign language as bits of food and a fork flew around the cabin. Apparently, the fork was knocked off the tray table by his elbow and hit a female passenger resulting in tears.
The Sun report noted that Kotsur was simply a nervous flier and was stressed out because of not having his sign language translator with him.
A spokesperson for the award-winning actor noted, “It was a major misunderstanding. Once there was someone able to interpret over FaceTime, everyone shook hands and walked away.”
It does not appear that Kotsur was actually arrested on landing. Kotsur is the first deaf actor in 35 years to nominated for an Oscar.
