An American man was detained in Germany after airport officials discovered a live Albino alligator in his luggage. Wait, what? Yes, a live alligator, wrapped in plastic, was being illegally transported by the man. Maybe it was his emotional support pet? More like a smuggling attempt.

An American man traveling through German was detained by local authorities after a 3-foot long albino alligator was discovered in his suitcase wrapped in plastic. According to German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, the man was traveling through the Munich Airport when the reptile was found tightly bound inside of his luggage.

Only the alligator’s nostrils were not wrapped in plastic and according to a Fox News report the reptile was in poor health. A picture of the x-ray has been circulating social media networks for a while now

The man was briefly detained, had his phone confiscated and required to pay a fine. A criminal investigation as to whether the 42-year-old man violated Germany’s Species Protection and Animal Welfare Act is ongoing.

Albino alligators are extremely rare with some estimating there are less than 200 in the world.
