A Southwest Airlines flight attendant is going viral for her efforts to help a plane full of passengers deal with a 4-hour flight delay. In the video, the flight attendant is heard leading the plane in a full-throated version of “If you’re happy and you know it.” Some passengers, including those who shot the video, are not amused.

TikToker Summer Lowe and her boyfriend recently experienced what all travelers get to experience from time to time: a lengthy flight delay when their flight was delayed for four hours. The Southwest Airlines flight crew attempted to deal with irritated passengers as best they could and one flight attendant got creative when she led the plane in a series of nursery rhymes.

The viral video was shared on TikTok and shows the two passengers filming themselves while a very loud flight attendant leads the plane in the well-known tune, “If you’re happy and you know it [clap your hands].”

While it’s admirable that the flight crew is attempting to keep passengers calm, it’s hard to find anything fun about this series of events, and Summer and her boyfriend are about as irritated as we think we’d be if this occurred to us. Watch the video for yourself, below:

Comments on the video are wide-ranging, with many commenters agreeing this would only further irritate them in the situation. Some note, “this would be the final straw!” Or, ” would walk right off.”

We agree. This would be highly annoying. However, at least the FA was trying to keep the passengers calm in a difficult situation. We give her props for that. How about you? Annoying or no?

Honestly – I LOVE it! Of course, flight delays are horrible & it makes everyone grumpy (usually I think the crew is just as grumpy as the rest of us). She has a lovely voice & it’s something to distract everyone. Maybe a different song would have been a better choice, but I am all for attendants trying to entertain & keep our minds occupied. It’s better than just sitting there in silence letting the stress build.

When I travel travel for business I want an airplane cabin as quiet as a library. This sounds like an adult day camp. I’ll never fly Southwest.

Having people yelling in aircraft and spewing more aerosol than necessary, in a pandemic, is just plain stupid. WN FAs are just….. ignorant.

Singing was identified early in the pandemic as a significant risk to spreading Covid-19. Better to just play music on the intercom?
