Flight Attendant’s Commentary on Luxury Bags Gets The Plane Laughing

A viral video of a Southwest Airlines flight attendant offers commentary on luxury travel bags and the proper way to stow your luggage.

These days it’s rare to see travelers having a good time and rarer still to see the oft-overworked and underpaid travel industry staff also having a hoot. After several years of wacky pandemic pandemonium travel when we find a funny story we kind of go bonkers for it.

In a now-viral TikTok video, a Southwest Airlines flight attendant is clearly loving his job. In a video posted by /divine_sorrow916 the man lays it on thick when encouraging passengers to stow their smaller luggage under the seatback in front of them to make room in the overhead bins.

As he describes the rigorous testing they’ve performed to ensure that Gucci and Prada and all the other luxury bags fit easily under the seatback he then deadpans the punch line: “If they were real you wouldn’t be flying Southwest would you?”

We are dying.

@divine_sorrow916 If you ever get this guy on your flight show him some love 👏🏾👏🏾 by far one of the best flight attendant / flight crew I’ve ever met wn241 . He deserves a raise @Southwest Airlines. #fyp #southwestairlines #denvertoraleigh #weekendvibes ♬ original sound – Itsjustmedonna

We love this and we love Southwest Airlines which is known for encouraging and allowing its team members to have a little more fun than their competitors. Good for them and good for this flight attendant.

My husband’s policy has always been, you fly economy, and I’ll buy you a new designer bag or two at our destination.

We make money that would allow us to travel paid business for our leisure travels, yet we still, fly economy since we’re relatively young. I am confident that many economy passengers can be far wealthier than those sitting up front. I believe this is particularly true on domestic flights, where underpaid road warriors are upgraded to F.

That was hilarious… I love SouthWest… I fly with them Domestically whenever possible… That way I’m able to save money for things like traveling…

IDK where you get your information but the topped out FA at Southwest working 80 trips a month only equates to $61k a year.

Not true! Not sure where you are getting your info. And its not cash compensation!

There is little to differentiate between United, Delta & American when it comes to service/flight attendants. Southwest sounds like a great airline in this way.

Oh great now I can’t fly southwest because people are going to assume my designer bags are fake. Thanks

Sure you can.
Why worry about what others say or think ?

Hours worked begin the time the door closes and ends after the door is opened after landing. Many more hours are worked unpaid beyond the 80 paid hours talked about here.

Reading these comments and having designer bags myself, it seems everyone is soooooo embarrassed!

Ridiculous
I own many authentic luxury bags. I would be extremely offended by this idiot. I’ll never fly Southwest because they don’t condemn employees that choose to make jokes at anyone’s expense.
This person should be FIRED

Get a back bone! Seriously take a joke!

Do you though?! It seems as though you’re offended because you can’t in fact afford a luxury bag. So you have to bitch on a social media account in order to get something free from an airline. Please by all means TAKE YOUR REAL LUXURY BAGS AND CONTINUE TO FLY ANYONE BUT SOUTHWEST.

I’m sure you’re rich enough to fly private jets and don’t have to be in the same cabin as us deplorable commoners. Fortunately for us that means we don’t have to worry about being delayed while TSA tries to determine if that stick in your ass is allowed through the checkpoint.

Then fly first class so you can save yourself from embarassment if you can’t handle SWA casual way doing things 😛

As a monthly flyer that also owns several businesses and my income is well above average, I have no problem or embarrassment flying Southwest, Spirit, Frontier or even Allegiant with my designer bags (which I own a few year’s salary worth). I don’t need a first class flight. I prefer to spend my funds on my destination and my husband agrees. His commentary was definitely laughable. The ones with the fake bags may have been offended but not a girl like me. I’m a jokester and I’m here for all the laughs

If you are that worried about what people think about your bag – why are you on an economy flight in an economy section?
I wonder why so many people today don’t seem to have a sense of humor? 🤷‍♀️

I flew charter for 14 years with TIA/TAA (travel in agony) flying and working on a low cost airline in my twenties and thirties saved me enough money to afford some luxury items later in my life. I love flying SWA, but please no negativity. My book Crisscrossing the Globe for Free + The Craft Life of a Charter F/A we’re some of the best years of my Life
