A man wielding a knife managed to burst through security at the Edmonton International Airport on Saturday, injuring a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer in the process before being subdued.
A man wielding an edged blade managed to push his way through airport security at the Edmonton International Airport (YEG) yesterday. According to the Edmonton Journal, the incident occurred around 8:30 in the morning when a call went out to airport security and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The man was quickly located and apprehended although an RCMP officer appears to have been injured in the process. The officer was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
RCMP at Edmonton International Airport responded to an incident this morning. After an altercation, the suspect was taken into custody. Airport operations were not affected during the incident.

RCMP Media Relations Officer Corporal Gina Slaney noted in a press release, “Due to the quick thinking of YEG security and RCMP, no one else was injured and operations at the airport were not affected.”
