It’s been an eventful few days in the world of travel and we’ve got the highlights including new information about mask mandates, restrictions on duct-taping unruly passengers, public opinion on vaccine passports and other interesting travel news stories.

In our roundup of interesting news stories, we bring you some of the more interesting pieces of travel news and events of the last few days including these tidbits of information:

Face Masks Mandates Extended

Masks are here for a bit longer for those traveling by air, train or bus – as noted by the folks at Live & Let Fly yesterday, the government is reportedly extending the federal mask mandates until at least January 2022. Gulp!

United says no more duct-taping unruly passengers

For those of you still irritated about the mask mandate being extended you no longer have to worry about being duct-taped to a seat when you refuse to wear your mask and lose your shit in the air – at least on United flights. United Airlines has informed its flight attendants that it may no longer duct tape unruly passengers. As noted by One Mile at a Time, sent a memo to employees telling them not to use duct tape when dealing with passengers losing their minds on a flight (probably over masks….)

Americans want vaccine passports / vaccine requirements to travel

We might not have to wear a mask (or risk being duct-taped to a seat when we act the fool…) if more of us were vaccinated and it seems that the majority of Americans support vaccine passports as a requirement to travel. As noted by View from the Wing, 64% of those polled in a recent survey support vaccine passports for travel. So there you go.

Hit the Easy Button on Hyatt Globalist

The Frequent Miler highlighted a relatively easy path to elite status with Hyatt and now we have decisions to make. Indeed, with current promos (see their piece) it’s a straightforward path to the big dance with Hyatt and there’s still plenty of time left in the year.

We are actually thinking about doing this ourselves. As long-time Hilton Diamond members we’ve blown through our re-up requirements for the year and are eyeballing some other programs. It kinda feels like cheating on Hilton, but Hyatt is a great brand and the path is so easy at this point.

The stories out of Kabul are nuts as was the last passenger flight out in this story

Sam Chui tells a compelling story about one of the last flights out of Kabul on the day when things got really nuts and it’s a great piece. A pilot is forced to take off without clearance as people flee the country of Afghanistan.
