Famed NFL running back Adrian Peterson was arrested Sunday morning at Los Angeles International Airport on charges of domestic violence as he and his wife apparently argued while on a Houston-bound airplane.

Multiple reports emerged Sunday morning about the famed former NFL running back Adrian Peterson as he was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) after allegedly becoming involved in a dispute with his wife.

According to a report by ESPN, Peterson and his wife, Ashley Peterson, were aboard a Houston-bound plane when a verbal altercation broke out. At one point, Peterson is said to have grabbed her wedding ring and scratched her finger. The plane then returned to the gate where Peterson was arrested.

Peterson was taken into custody and later released on a $50,000 bond. The same ESPN report noted that Peterson’s wife does not intend to press charges, and offered a statement from the Peterson camp:

“This is a private misunderstanding between husband and wife and we anticipate it will all be resolved shortly.”

This is not the first time the 36-year-old Peterson has had brushes with the law including 2014 charges of child abuse after using a switch on his then 4-year-old son leaving bruises and cuts. Peterson pled no contest to those charges and was later suspended by the NFL.

The highly decorated running back spent a decade with the Minnesota Vikings before bouncing around the league for a few years. He finished his storied career in Seattle this last season.
