Recently, it was widely reported that a Southwest Airlines pilot used the derogatory phrase “Let’s go Brandon” during his pre-flight message. The resulting fallout has spread like wildfire across the internet once again striking the palpable tensions that exist in today’s political climate.

The statement, which implies an offensive statement towards President Joe Biden, has itself become a siren call for a host of Americans who remains extremely dissatisfied with the President, the handling of the pandemic and liberal policies in general.

According to reporting from Gary Leff at View from the Wing, passengers on the Houston to Albuquerque flight gasped as the phrase was uttered. Southwest quickly became a trending topic on many social media platforms as people called the pilot’s mental health into question while others cheered the pilot’s boldness.

The incident is under investigation by the airline who released its first official statement regarding the incident via Twitter, below.

The phrase Let’s Go Brandon, which stems from a Nascar interview that had a reporter mishear a crowd’s chant, has entered the zeitgeist at this point, including its own music video by Forgiato Blow (warning explicit language):

If true, this pilot should be put on unpaid leave for a certain amount of time. He has caused his employer a significant embarrassment. My initial thoughts were that the pilot should be canned but I’m going to try and be more tolerant—something that seems to be lacking all around. When at work, your customers don’t care what your political beliefs are—whether left or right—so keep them to yourself. The whole vaccine thing has been blown way out of proportion. Employers ask employees to do all kinds of stuff they don’t want to do—one has two choices—do it or quit.
