A rowdy passenger on an easyJet flight grabbed a flight attendant’s neck after drinking nearly an entire bottle of whiskey. After later being arrested the man’s punishment has finally been meted out.
Fifty-one-year-old Colin Smith was traveling to Malta via Manchester early last year to celebrate his birthday when he refused to follow a flight attendant’s instructions. Instead of wearing a seatbelt and staying seated, Smith, who’d drunk nearly an entire bottle of whiskey was standing and appeared to be trying to locate the lavatory or perhaps experiencing a medical situation.
However, when confronted by the flight attendant, Smith grabbed her by the neck with both hands and attempted to hit her.
The flight attendant broke free and pushed Smith down before he was restrained by other passengers. Upon arriving back in Manchester after his Malta trip, Smith was arrested and admitted to the offenses.
Now, the UK resident who reportedly has several prior convictions including a previous battery charge learned his sentence. A UK judge sentenced him to six months in jail after Smith pled guilty to the charges of being drunk on an airplane and assault. Smith apologized to the victim and said he was anxious about flying which led him to consume 3/4 of a bottle of Famous Goose whiskey.
