And don’t even think about being bald or having a beard. One airline’s new grooming standards are catching serious flak for their strict tenor. Have they gone too far?

Air India unveiled new grooming standards for flight attendants and many aren’t happy. Earlier this year Tata took control of Air India taking it private after decades of nationalist control. Now, in an attempt to improve its image, the airline announced new grooming standards for flight attendants.

Under the new guidelines, Air India flight attendants must have naturally colored hair. Grey hair? Banned. Flight attendants must dye their hair to match company-approved color guidelines.

If you have a receding hairline or a bald patch you must shave your head in order to present a clean look. Various other grooming standards – including no beards – are also being applied that have many of the staff griping about the new changes.

One report has suggested many employees are very unhappy about the new changes – especially at a time when many airlines around the world are relaxing their grooming standards. One airline official told the Hindustan Times, “…some think it is required for building the image of the airline, but others see it to be a little too much.”
