If you’ve traveled recently you know that the travel experience is a whole lot different than it used to be and if you’ve not traveled in a while, boy, are you in for a surprise. That said, while some things change, some things definitely remain the same and there’s humor to be found throughout today’s travel experience. Here are the 6 (mostly) funny things about traveling right now.

6 (mostly) funny things about traveling right now

  1. Your face mask may stop coronavirus, but it’s not slowing down that dude still farting on the plane
  2. Pandemic or no pandemic, dude’s still ain’t washing their hands in the bathroom
  3. One year into this thing and people still don’t know how to wear a mask
  4. Have you tried ordering anything while traveling?
  5. The feeling when you take that mask off…wow. Freedom!

Your face mask may stop coronavirus, but it’s not slowing down that dude still farting on the plane

a man on fire with a fireball coming out of his pants

We’ve all sat next to a chronic farter on a plane. On a recent trip, I was hopeful that my fancy KN95 mask would filter out some of the less pleasant odors on a plane. It turns out that while that mask is great for stopping coronavirus it ain’t got nothing on the dude sitting in seat 3A. Good lord, man. What did you eat? That face mask didn’t phase it one bit as wave after wave of this guy’s farts washed over the rest of us in the cabin.

Pandemic or no pandemic, dude’s still ain’t washing their hands in the bathroom

I’ve written about this before, but I am always shocked about men’s bathroom behavior – particularly in airport bathrooms. You would think that during a pandemic when hygiene is kinda super duper important that guys would wash their hands after doing their business.

Nope.

On a recent trip I was shocked to see to the number of times men did their business and blew right past the sink and out the door, sans soap and water.

You see, that’s why we can’t have nice things.

One year into this thing and people still don’t know how to wear mask

a woman with blindfold on her face

It’s been at least a year now since this madness started. You’d think people would know how to wear a face mask by now. Of course, however, that isn’t the case.

People still literally have no idea how to wear a mask. And it’s not just the travelers. Airline employees, hotel staff, rental car employees and everyone in between. It’s crazy how many people don’t know how to wear a mask.

Or just don’t care. To be honest, I don’t know which one is worse.

Have you tried ordering anything while traveling? Garbled

Ordering pretty much anything while you traveling in this day and age is hard. You are wearing a face mask. The cashier is wearing a mask. And there’s probably a 1/8 inch thick layer of plexiglass between you.

“Yeah, I’d like to get 3 Carne Asada Tacos” can easily become “So, 3 Fried Shrimp Tacos?” [True story, by the way]

So, inevitably, the cashier pulls his or her mask away from their face or down and leans around the plexiglass to get the order right. And I, of course, lean around and towards the cashier to make sure she/he can hear me.

Perfect.

The feeling when you take that mask off…wow. Freedom!

When you finally get to a place where you can take your mask off it feels so amazing. On my last trip, I ended up buying some food I didn’t even really want just so I could take my mask off for a few minutes. What relief.

And when I hit my final destination that feeling you get when that mask flies off and you are free! Wow.

Where’d the Trump Fans go?

I’ve traveled before, during, and after the recent election here in the states. One thing that was prominent was there was a LOT of Trump supporters traveling before, during, and immediately after the election. Lot of MAGA hats, lot of Trump shirts everywhere.

However, on my most recent trip, I’ll be damned if I saw ONE single Trump shirt or hat at the airport, on a plane or in a hotel. Seriously. I didn’t see a single one in the ONT, DEN, CLE and IAH airports. Not one.

Funny.

How about you? What have you noticed while traveling lately?

More important – how many Biden masks or hats do you see travelling? Has The New Messiah gained any disciples?

Maybe 1 or 2 at most.

Dave, what exactly is the purpose of statements like this? To sound unhinged? You’re making AOC look like the voice of moderation with your “Messiah” stuff. Do you really believe that making statements that have lots of extreme opinion but zero facts help draw people to your side? I’m no Democrat but when you say stuff like that you make me cringe. Your commentary on non political issues is thoughtful and eloquent so I know it’s not some lack of ability to stick with travel subjects on travel blogs. Again, what is your purpose?
