Can you bring tweezers on a plane? Do I have to check tweezers or can they go in my carry on? In our latest edition of “What can I bring on a plane” we examine the travel rules for tweezers and answer the burning questions including “Can I bring Tweezers on a Plane?”
In our series “What can I bring on a Plane?” we’ve been examining the myriad of different questions travelers have about what they can and can’t bring and how they might have to bring items
Can you bring tweezers on a plane?
Tweezers. Those wonderfully simple little inventions that come in oh so handy when you need them most. Plucking an eyebrow, pulling some dead skin off, extracting an ingrown hair, and so on. People use tweezers in a variety of ways in their daily life.
Thus, it makes perfect sense to want to bring them with you on your trip. But, can you bring tweezers on a plane? In a post-9/11 world what are the TSA Rules on tweezers?
According to the TSA’s Travel Rules, Tweezers are an acceptable item to bring on a plane. That includes both checked luggage and carry on or hand luggage. To be clear, you CAN bring tweezers on a plane.
The TSA also offers the following guidance on their page that addresses traveling with tweezers: “Any sharp objects in checked baggage should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors.”
Normal Tweezers – no issues on a plane with these
Additional variant of common tweezers. Again, no issue with these fellas
That said, it’s worth noting that the TSA is definitely interested in keeping sharp objects off of airplanes and while most tweezers (especially those like pictured above) are going to be perfectly fine there are some tweezers that might garner the scrutiny of a TSA officer. For example these Ingrown Hair Tweezers, below, appear to be VERY sharp. They may not be an issue or maybe they will, but why take the chance.
Sharper Ingrown Hair Tweezers *may* give cause for concern by a TSA Agent
This set of really badass tweezers features several that are a bit on the sharp side. Again, you are probably ok, but a TSA agent could decide otherwise
Remember that the TSA officer has the ability to make a safety call about something on their own. In fact, on the TSA website it notes the following:
“The final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint.”
So, if they feel that your special tweezers present some sort of safety or security risk they are within their rights to confiscate them. Personally, I wouldn’t bring tweezers that are very sharp.
By the way, while researching this article I found this set of Titanium Bonded Tweezer Set that has a price tag that’s pretty much insane (They better come with a nurse to use them too for the price they are charging. Good lord!)

Additional Tips on Traveling with Tweezers and Toiletries in General
Of course, we have to mention mention some additional tips for traveling with toiletries, including tweezers and more. Here’s a couple to help you along your trip.
- Buy your travel toiletries in bulk to save money. Read why here.
- Invest in a decent toiletry bag. There are lots of different options, but get something that works for you. I personally use a simple, but spacious model like this, but you might also consider a hanging toiletry bag like the 42 Travel Hanging Toiletry Bag (pictured below)

Final Thoughts
Can you bring tweezers on a plane? Now you know. You can! Just be careful with the sharper models as the TSA might decide they are a little too sharp to be allowed on a plane. Happy traveling and happy tweezing!
