Face masks are pretty much a part of our daily routine at this point and there are some unique ones out there these days (like the Uvex Bionic Face Shield…good lord), but one company has a new offering that takes the cake.

The AIR by MicroClimate is somewhere between an astronaut’s space helmet and a face shield. Pictured below, this product gives you full coverage…and I mean full coverage. Literally your entire head is encased in a bubble.

The covid-19 pandemic has left millions of people with far too much time on their hands and the inventive have got to work inventing some shall-we-say unique protective measures. The AIR is just that. This 199.00 product includes a battery-powered hepa filter with four hours of battery life.

Imagine sitting on a 6 hour flight in this baby. NOT. A. CHANCE. Plus, the battery only lasts for 4 hours. To quote the infamous Randy Jackson, “Yeah, that’s a no for me dawg.”

Their product description notes:

“AIR filters both inlet air and outlet air through HEPA filters that are in front of and behind our fans. AIR’s acrylic visor enables an unobstructed view of the face. The user can also wear glasses without interference. The fabric inside and around the neck is lightweight and washable”

I am sure it does a fantastic job of preventing transmission of the coronavirus, but come on, this feels like overkill. I guarantee, though, someone will wear this on a plane. You can count on that.

If you’d like a more traditional face shield, try this Amazon best seller: Sunzel Face Shield

Sorry, but most all masks are stupid. In the sense of if you are wearing them to stop a virus. Want to know if the mask you’re wearing isn’t stopping a virus? Just ask yourself this question: am I still breathing while wearing it? If you answered ‘yes’, your mask isn’t stopping a virus. But if you’re suffocating while wearing it, then you know you’ve got a quality mask that’s stopping a virus. lol

Brady – that is an ignorant comment that ignores the scientific literature. Doctors can breathe. Why do they wear masks?

So they don’t contaminate sterile operating environment and cause infection. We’re talking bacteria infections. Airborne viruses go right through surgical masks. It’s like trying to stop mosquitos using a chain link fence.

FYI, the Uvex Bionic face shield is designed to protect the face from injury during woodworking and metalworking. That said, on amazon there are lots of Covidians wearing these face shields and it’s hilarious. A few months ago I was at an electronics store and some guy was wearing a full face shield like the Uvex AND a 3M dual filter respirator with P100 cartridges.
